E/V Nautilus dove on an sonar unknown target, thought to be a 500 foot-long shipwreck. After a survey of the vessel the Corps of Exploration successfully identified the wreck as USS Peterson (DD-969).

The Ocean Exploration Trust was founded in 2008 by Titanic discoverer Dr. Robert Ballard to explore the ocean, seeking out new discoveries in the fields of geology, biology, maritime history, archaeology, physics, and chemistry while pushing the boundaries of STEM education and technological innovation.
