Fishing 101: What is a Leader Line? Monofilament or Fluorocarbon?

Join us as we discuss the purpose of a fishing leader line, the pros and cons of monoflament and fluorocarbon fishing leaders. Whether you are just learning to fish or perhaps you have been fishing for many years but never took the time to understand the importance of when to use mono leaders over fluorocarbon leaders and vice versa.

The purpose in a leader is to add strength, stealth and abrasion resistance to the end of your line. The idea is to get an edge and this is a simple way to do so. Moniflimanet has been around for some time, it is a single filament line that is known for abrasion resistance, it is considerably cheaper then the counterpart. There are cons to mono, these cons include: Lots of stretch, the leader is porous, so the line soaks up lots of water. Fluorocarbon however is just the opposite, it does not soak up water, it is even more so abrasion resistance but most importantly it refracts light making the line very difficult for fish to see. This is why it's the preferred leader in the industry as of now. If you enjoyed this video, please like, share and subscribe. Thank you!
