Exploris is a Gresham-designed 100m-expedition yacht with a Ulstein Group style ‘X-BOW'

Steve Gresham of Gresham Yacht Design, a studio based in Mayfair, London that specialises in the design of superyachts ranging from 50m to 150m. One of the design studios highlight projects is the 87m Alucia2, OceanX’s new exploration and research vessel that is the next generation of MV Alucia, which was featured in the BBC series Blue Planet II. Exploris is a 100m-explorer vessel with a Ulstein Group style ‘X-BOW’, The inverted bow concept has redefined marine engineering in the commercial sector. The X-BOW hull line design has been proven in the most extreme weather conditions. Currently, more than 100 vessels with this bow concept are being constructed or in operational work around the world. The X-BOW utilizes a tapered fore ship shape with a different volume distribution as well as sectional angles, resulting in a wave piercing effect at small wave heights, and also reduces pitching and bow impact loads in bigger seas. When comparing fore ship volumes with more conventional, bulbous bow shapes, the X-BOW has more displacement volume starting from the waterline. Instead of just rising on the waves and then dropping with huge force, the X-BOW® is able to distribute the force more evenly across its surface – enabling the ship to remain more stable in poor weather conditions, increasing comfort for both passengers and crew. And it uses less fuel to get through the waves, saving energy and therefore money. This Ice Class hull plenty of accommodation with twin Azipod propulsion system and a range of 7,000 nm. full dynamic positioning capabilities. are achieved by a forward retractable thruster and twin bow thrusters, IT’S dedicated helicopter hangar can house an Augusta Grand or EC135. However, the helipad is certified for the much larger Sikorsky S76 undersea enthusiasts can add a Trident submersible, full dive facilities including a re-compression chamber, a forward facing observation lounge, with a window that extends around the bow for unbelievable views.
