Diving Weight Vests Overview | ADRENO

Diving Weight Vests & Balancing Ballast What Are Diving Weight Vests? Diving weight vests are a great piece of spearfishing gear. One great thing about weight vests is that they take the weight off your waist, and distribute it better over your upper body, particularly your shoulders and back. What Are The Benefits of Using Diving Weight Vests? When you're kicking around, your spinal area gets a fair bit of work by the positioning and the kicking style, but a vest can help that. If you have lower back trouble, a weight vest is ideal for diving. Another benefit is that it makes the transition from the surface easier (duck diving). It brings the weights off your waist and puts them in the centre of your back so you can have quite an effortless duck dive. As the most buoyant part of your body when you dive is your lungs, a diving weight vest is a great way to add weight directly to your chest area. Diving Weight Vest Limitations However, one thing to remember is that weight vests are more difficult to remove compared to weight belts where you just have to pull it out, release it, and the weight drops off. Wayne demonstrates how to put a weight vest on and off in the video above. Another thing to note is that weight vests can roll up on your neck when you dive. Using a clip and line can help you secure the vest onto your weight belt so that it stays in place. Weight vests also don’t replace weight belts. They only put additional weight on thicker suits. Weight vests should be worn with a belt that holds the majority of the weight. Putting all the weight in the vest can be dangerous.
