Weed Line Dolphin (Mahi Mahi) Fishing Tips in the Florida Keys

In this episode, we go fishing for Mahi Mahi with our cousins down in the Florida Keys. We went out in the evening and found a weed line in 600 to 650 ft of water. We started trolling it on the clean side until we hooked up on a dolphin. We trolled a 100 or so yard stretch where the Mahi seemed to be holding. We even had a nice Mahi hit a bar jack that had just eaten our rattle jet lure! We were trolling a mix of lures and some ballyhoo offshore about 12 miles out. We were using 20 and 30 lb tackle on reels such as Shimano TLD 20's and Tiagra and Avet 30w's. Our trolling speed was about 7 mph. When you find a weedline offshore look for the part of it that is holding birds. If you don't see birds troll around and look for Mahi under the grass or if you get a bite loop back through the area several times.
