I have been seeing a lot of new Goliath Grouper videos this year. So... let's share some of them.
Starting with this one,

West Palm Beach - Esso Bonaire - August 2021

"This was an August dive to the Esso Bonaire in West Palm Beach to see the aggregation of Goliath Groupers. A few recent tropical storms had an upwelling of cold water, which gave us a strong thermocline. The surface water temperature was 82F, and dropped to 67F at 60 feet. Max depth was 87 feet, with a dive time of 40 minutes."

Goliath Grouper on the Anna Cecilia

Dive report for September 7, 2021 First dive site was the Anna Cecilia near Lake Worth inlet (West Palm Beach, Florida). Current was strong, water was warm in low 80’s and vis 50-80 feet. As 3 of us dropped down we were greeted by big schools of fish and a few uninterested Goliath Groupers. After hooking the flag off on the stern made my way up to the main deck. BJ or her bubbles were always in my sight but lost track of our third diver and looked at BJ who was signaling the same thing. Made a quick look at the openings in the deck for bubbles and there were none so up we went. Always anxious when that happens but a big sigh of relief when we surfaced and saw his smb. Makes for a short video but there is always next time. Next 3 dives were reefs for lobster hunting and the strong current made it really hard to get to the bugs but there were a few captured. Ocean was flat with hardly any wind and boat traffic was light. Great day on the water and thank you to our crew who makes it so much fun.

Goliath Grouper Aggregation on Jupiter's Wreck Trek and MG111 Wreck

This short video combines two dives. The first is the Wreck Trek, which is a series of three small wrecks, and the MG111. Goliath groupers (Epinephelus itajara) aggregate at these spots during aggregation season (the fall). The Goliaths defense mechanism is a series of loud "booms" they create with their mouths, which is exhibited at the 1:10 minute mark (the sound is pretty loud under water). Diving with Jupiter Scuba Diving off the Kyalami with buddies Gary Kessler and Michele Reed. The Amazing Anne is our guide.

Goliath Grouper Off of Key West

Check out the size of the Goliath grouper off of Key West in August 2021. One of the reasons we love to scuba diving off the keys is the abundance of sea life. Enjoy!

What If You Got Swallowed by a Goliath Fish?

You may want to stay on the boat. This part of the ocean doesn't belong to you. It belongs to this beast, the Atlantic goliath grouper. And if you wander too close to those shadows, you may not come back out. So what would happen if this giant devoured you? What part of you would the fish eat first? Could you outswim this predator? Or would you have to escape out its other end? How can this fish send out a shockwave? How powerful is the sonic blast?

MASSIVE Florida Keys Goliath Grouper CLOSE UP!

The giant of the grouper family, the goliath (formerly called jewfish) has brown or yellow mottling with small black spots on the head and fins, a large mouth with jawbones that extend well past its small eyes, and a rounded tail. It also has five dark body bands or stripes that are most visible on young goliath.

Goliath Groupers on the Wreck Trek - September 2021

The wreck trek is a series of three wrecks off the coast of Jupiter Florida. Depths are 80+ feet. Fall is Goliath grouper (Epinephelus itajara) aggregation (mating) season so there were plenty of Goliaths on the wrecks. 40' to 50' of visibility, depths of 80+ feet, combined with weird horizontal and vertical thermoclines (changes in temperature), made for some fuzzy video effects unless I was close to my subjects. Diving with my buddies Gary Kessler and Michele Reed off the Kyalami, Jupiter Scuba Diving. The Amazing Anne is our guide.
